Right now, if you control say, 3 duchy titles, I would wait until you either: control so much land you can't hold it directly or think you might die soon. One way around the limit is to directly hold some land without having a duchy title for that (although that might make succession worse eventually). Each duchy you hold past that limit means there's a -15 opinion with all your vassals (but no reduction in income). Kings and Emperors can only directly hold two duchy titles. Then, there's limits on rulers due to realm sizes.Ĭounts and Dukes can only have a realm of up to 30 counties, each county over that limit means they get 5% less tax. Titles held by vassals give you less tax and levy, but they (almost always) give some tax and levy, and let you avoid the domain penalty. So, you can hand titles off to vassals to avoid that limit. If you hold more titles than your domain limit allows, you have reduced income and levies, and everyone in your realm will have a -10 opinion penalty for holding too many counties. Generally, characters with higher stewardship have a higher domain limit, but there's also some innovations and perks that can increase that. Let's talk about how CK3 limits realm sizes.įirst, every character has a domain limit. In the short term, it might not be though. In the long term, it can be better to be king of Ireland.
